Wellness South Tyrol
Many people think that the wellness South Tyrol tradition dates back to the XIX century, bit it´s much older. It´s true that South Tyrol was launched by the Austrian nobles in the XIX century thanks to its thermal waters. Mountain resorts like Dobbiaco (German: Toblach), San Candido (German Innichen), Villabassa (German: Niederdorf) and Braies (German Prags), together with the elegant Merano, were already famous for their thermal springs, offering sulphur, iron-based and radon-based therapeutic waters. The famous hay bath, so effective in case of the locomotor apparatus disorders, was invented by the South Tyrolean farmers and now it´s proposed by nearly every wellness hotel South Tyrol. This region was also able to renew its tourist image, destining to the wellness and relax sector a very important part of winter and summer tourism.
